youtu.be/dJCwTAF252E From: Wendy O. Wingate Date: 25 November 2014 at 15:27 Subject: samples for an intensive FIP study request Hello Marlene! You have been particularly responsive to our research needs; thank you! I would like to ask your advise and solicit your assistance. The Whittaker Lab is following up on some findings from a recent FIP study. For the next 8 weeks, we are seeking EDTA (purple top) fresh blood from kitties with putative FIP and/or healthy housemates of kitties who presently have been diagnosed with FIP or who have succumb to the disease. We will be isolating cells from the blood, comparing viral sequences (indicating spike proteins) from RT/PCR monocytes, (cells important for the conversion to FIP from FCoV) in sick and healthy felines. The time is short for sampling. The blood needs to be fresh, not frozen for the purpose of this study. Here is what we would like to receive: -A minimum of 2ml freshly drawn blood, (4-5ml desired) shipped STANDARD overnight via FedEx to our lab. -A completed University Study Consent and Feline Animal History form If consent has been issues to the University FCoV Study in the past, there is no need to complete a duplicate as this phase is included in our overall study. Likewise, the animal history form is relevant only if the feline has never sampled in our study or if the client-felines health has significantly changed since last history/sample was submitted. -The shipping instructions are as follows: If documentation is accompanied by the sample(s) it is easter to enter all feline/client information into our database and assign a study # to each sample. Label all tubes with name of feline and date sample was collected. To ship, place LABELED (name and collection date) blood sample tube (between 2mls (minimum) and 4mls. (desired) in a purple-top Vacutainer EDTA collection tube with ice (in zip lock bag to prevent leakage) into a small corrugated box. You can use paper to fill box if needed. Use FedEx packaging/shipping guidelines if you are unsure. Tape the box securely and place in FedEx Clinical Pak or attach FedEx label directly to package. Complete the shipper information below on the FedEx airbill to return it FedEx STANDARD OVERNIGHT, no signature required, does not contain dangerous goods, bill to recipient, account # 18543679-9, total packages 1/total declared value $1. Please call (607)253-4065 or email ([email protected]) when you ship the samples so our laboratory is prepared to process them immediately upon arrival the following day. Remember: Shipments are received Monday through Friday. Please ship samples Monday through Thursday ONLY. We DO NOT accept shipments delivered on the weekends! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by telephone at 607.253.4065 or email, [email protected] Marlene, your networking abilities are amazing! What do you think is the best strategy to reach as many possible donors as I (we) can. I really appreciate your help and thank you in advance. Sincerely, Wendy Wingate Cornell University FCoV Study
