youtu.be/nn0gkr8wfNE She is my artiste of the night and one of my faves of all time! Her story is so intriguing- propositioned by her boss, she refuses him, gets fired without pay. She becomes homeless and lives out of her car. Her kidneys begin to fail and she cannot hold down a job consistently. She almost die on the outside of a hospital because of her failing kidney ... She is NOT admitted because she has no insurance. Her car gets stolen .... She starts shoplifting in order to eat. One day she sees a dress and is tempted to steal it but realizes that this is not her ... She is .much more... Makes a decision to use her hands to create and do good... She pens the song Hands.she never steals again. She writes and writes and writes and writes and audition but no body will sign her ... She does not fit in despite of an extraordinary voice. She travels from state to state taking gigs where ever she can and within a year sells a million copies of her first album herself. She gets a contract. Sells over 15 million of her first album. Her second album garners her the opportunity to have a private concert for the then Pope thereby proving what the scripture says that it is your gifts and talents that will take you before princes and kings! Here she is with one of my fave live performances....(apparently some do not like it but I find it all astonishing.
