youtu.be/weBKcNE03Fo Lancaster City Schools Announces 2015 Earned Income Tax RENEWAL Lancaster City Schools announced that it will ask voters to renew the district’s 1.5 percent earned income tax in the 2015 November election. This earned income tax was passed in November 2006 for a 10-year period, and will expire at the end of 2016. The district is opting to run for the renewal a year prior to the expiration date. The following statement can be attributed to Lancaster City Schools Superintendent Steve Wigton: “By approving this tax for another 10 years, the district will be able to collect the same tax from 2016-2026, ensuring that we can continue to provide an excellent education for our children in the future. The district is seeking renewal a year early to allow us to accurately forecast our operational budget and plan for adequate funding for the foreseeable future. “Passing of the renewal will NOT raise taxes and will simply allow the district to continue at the same funding levels with which we are currently operating. Also, since it applies to earned income only, there is no tax on retirement or social security incomes. “It’s also important to note that this operating levy is for general operating expenses and is not related to the building of new elementary schools, which was funded through a separate building levy. “The current operating levy funds $10.7 million—nearly 18 percent – of the district’s operating budget, which allows the district to serve the educational needs of more than 6,100 children and youth in our community with a dedicated team of more than 700 employees.”
