youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3ueFQH06BIY The .380 automatic Colt Pistol or .380 ACP as it is more comely known was developed and introduced in 1908 by Mr. John Browning who was still at that time employed by the Colt’s Arms Company. The .380 ACP was developed as a compact self-defense pistol and round and been very popular since its development. Since introduction onto the arms market many of the world’s arms makers have developed their own variants and here are just a few of companies that offer a variant of the .380 Kurz , Corto, Browning, Beretta, and Walter just to name a few. The Walter PPK was most widely used in World War Two by German Army, Air Force as well as some Naval Officers and where prized by them more than the Iron Crosses they received. The Italian Armed Forces also had a version manufactured by Beretta Arms Company. Due to the .380 ACP’s very compact design and very lite weight it has a very short range and limited stopping power and is considered a middle of the road pistol. Never the less it is one of the most popular choices for carry and concealed pistols even to this day. The James Bond movies only fueled the fire in wanting to own one of these pistols. The United States Military Forces did not use this caliber of weapon; instead they choose stopping power and range and settled for .45 ACP from Colt. Some intelligence operatives after World War Two did in real life carry different version of the .380 ACP and now for a more personal and true story of one of those pistols. Years ago I was visiting my friend’s parents who I have known all my life and was in his shop talking to his father, when he asked us if we wanted to see something very special. Of course we both said sure and he pulled out a felt bag out of a locked drawer from his cabinet. Inside this bag was a Walter PPK in a condition you can only say was like the day it first came out of the box. He told us how when he was in the Air Force he was stationed in West Berlin as part of a military intelligence unit in support of a civilian intelligence origination. One of its operatives came in and looked at him and gave him the pistol and said get rid of this. He told him yes sir and held on to it to study it and after a couple of days of looking at this he decided to keep it as it would be a waste just to toss it away. All those years he kept this too himself, never telling anyone and taking it out only when no one was around. Now this Walter has been passed down to Mike, now that his dad has pass on and from time to time we still take it to the range and fire it. We marvel at its engraving in which you can still see the Nazis Swastika’s very visible on this weapon and wonder if this weapon could talk what stories would it tell. articlesbase/news-and-society-articles/the-380-acp-and-variants-6774029.html ammoforsaleammo
