youtube/watch?v=ALsOWR0ZcyA In 1976, the first out break of the Ebola virus happened between June and November in South Sudan. They managed to contain the virus and there were only 318 case and 280 deaths. Why is it that in our day in age that we were not able to contain the virus before it spread to other countires? We have far more advance technology and medical knowledge than we did back then. It is estimated that by January 1.4 million people will be infected by the virus. Canadian airports are screening only people coming from West Africa by testing their temperature...when it can take up to 21 days (on average it is between 8-10 days though) for any symptoms to show. During this time period a person who may have com,e in contact with the virus could have gone around the world and visited several other countries and therefore spreading ebola to many more unknowing victims before even coming to Canada. On top of that, only about 1.5 of travellers coming to Canada come from the infected countries. It is a complete waste of resources and a few noted doctors who are experts on infectious diseases have confirmed that as well stating that Canadian efforts should be focused on containing the virus rather than screening incoming travellers. So why is it that we havent contained the virus yet? The answer is simple: Its supposed to spread and wipe out a bunch of people. Think Im exaggerating? Watch this video, do more research, and then develop your own opinion.
