Mozart revered Hadyn as the creator of the string quartet. During this time, Haydn and Mozart sometimes played together in Mozarts apartment, with Mozart playing the viola, and Haydn playing violin. On one occasion, Haydn made a now-famous remark to Mozarts father, Leopold: Before God, and as an honest man, I tell you that your son is the greatest composer known to me either in person or by name. He has taste, and, what is more, the most profound knowledge of composition. A boy genius who composed classical music from age 5, Mozart created over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, chamber, and operatic music.
