It is done in the temples in Hawaii as a ritual massage, to prepare a person to start a new phase in his/her life like for example a boy turning into manhood, a girl into a woman, getting married, getting divorced, taking a licensure or board examination, starting a new job or business, relocating to a new place, etc. The goal of this ritualistic massage is to drive all the negative energies away brought about by anxiety of undergoing a change, and asking the Hawaiian gods to fulfill the wishes that the client expresses before the start of the massage (in this video shown by lighting a candle in a Klang bowl). In the real traditional Lomi Lomi Nui in Hawaii, the massage is actually done in a temple with the massage therapist chanting these Hawaiian Kahuna chants, and all these other ritualistic gestures. But of course, outside Hawaii, we modify it a little bit. I do not want to scare my client lying there on the massage table naked under a sheet, and hearing me chanting like a shaman or a witch doctor ready for the kill, hahahahhahha!!! In this video, an audio CD provides the chanting, which should have been done by the MT.
