youtube/watch?v=g-WaCBl_we4 Ive had this issue on my mind for quite some time, and after watching this video I decided to share my thoughts on the science vs. religion debate. Before my mission I was studying the beginning classes to major in astrophysics, after my mission I got a degree in biological sciences to attend medical school, but I have decided to do mechanical engineering after all that. In this video, Bill Maher says something to the extent of We cant explain how the earth got here, but it doesnt mean we should make up stories like little children to explain it. I would say scientist do the same thing. A prime example is a topic brought up in one of my astronomy classes- dark matter. Astrophysicists are observing galaxies that arent rotating the way our physics says they should. To bring that uncomfortable fact into our way of thinking, scientists hypothesize that there is a completely undetectable, invisible matter that affects the way galaxies rotate. There is not a shred of evidence that dark matter exists other than the physics of large bodies. Simply put- Problem: Galaxies are not obeying the laws of physics. Solution: There is an invisible, undetectable matter that effects their rotation. Doesnt that sound a lot like the criticisms of science on religion? While I was studying biology and astronomy, I never heard anything that would conflict with my religion. I would love to hear others opinions on this topic- Im in the state of asking myself why Im wrong instead of why Im right. My liberty prevail in our land. -CS
