youtube/watch?v=mqjs2hmzqAc The bandage is keeping the blood out of his eyes. Be sure to watch this one to the end. (And if you didnt see the beginning, watch the first video I posted before you watch this one.) I woke up this morning thinking about heroism because this is the day Canadians (and others) remember those who have fallen in battle. My mind turned to Yuzuru Hanyu who is neither a Canadian nor a soldier. He is, however, someone whose incredible courage I watched a few days ago. Yuzuru is one of my guys. Skaters who tug at my heart. Although he skates for Japan, I claim him because he trains in Canada and because, by all accounts, he is a lovely young man. Heroism comes in so many forms. I didnt want Yuzuru to skate after the crash because I worried about his injury. I still do. But since he did choose to skate, I agonized with him through his program. When he got off the ice, the Canadian commentator explained that he also suffers from asthma and was having an attack as he staggered into his coachs arms. This video may make you think he won because his rank shows #1. The skater who followed him put Yuzuru in second place. But no matter what his score, he had me in tears with him at the end. He gave everything he had. Thats what we honour today when we honour those who died in battle. I want to honour that wherever I find it.
