ÈSÀṆWO KINNUPE NEWSFLASH: Those Who Are Opposed to Edu State At the meeting held three days ago at Professor Jerry Gana’s residence, GRA, Bida, on the progress report of the Movement for the Creation of Edu State the general opinion that became a consensus was that the masses throughout the length and breadth and in every nook and corner of KinNupe are in full and absolute support of Edu State creation but that a marginal section of the elite are actually opposed to the creation of Edu State. Several speakers at the meeting made it clear that the elite, especially the elected officials of KinNupe, are secretly opposed to the creation of Edu State because they see the creation of Edu State as a direct change to the status quo from which they are benefitting. The people from Kwara State who attended the meeting categorically declared that the Nupe senator and the House of Rep members from Kwara State are opposed to the creation of Edu State and have therefore exhibit lack of any interest in the struggle for the creation of Edu State. On the other hand it was observed by people attending the meeting from Niger State that in Niger State majority of the chairmen of the local government areas of Zone A and Members of the State House of Assembly are the ones who are mostly opposed, albeit secretly, to the creation of Edu State. It was generally agreed that majority of the highly-placed Nupe politicians don’t really want Edu State because they are comfortable with their present positions and offices and also because they don’t want to offend their own benefactor leader-states men whom they serve.
