éirígí activists highlight pro-Israeli media bias at BBC headquarters. At 8pm last night [Thursday 3rd of July], éirígí activists gathered at the BBCs Broadcasting House in Belfasts city centre to bring attention to the plight of Palestinian children who have suffered massively at the hands of the Israeli Defence Forces. The activists erected posters on the exterior of the building stating BBC Hierarchy of victims and quoting statistics highlighting the high attrition rate of Palestinian children at the hands of the IDF. A Palestinian flag was also erected outside the building. As security inside scrambled to take pictures of the activists, they continued to erect posters on the walls and windows outside. Since the turn of the millennium 1,518 Palestinian children have been murdered by the Israeli military machine occupying Palestine. Thats one child every three days. Another 6,000 have been injured and more than 10,000 arrested. A recent UNICEF report stated that each year, some 700 Palestinian children aged 12 to 17 – mainly boys – are arrested, interrogated, and detained by Israels army, police, and security agents. According to the report, the ill-treatment often begins at the point of arrest, when children are woken by heavily-armed soldiers and forcibly brought to an interrogation centre “tied and blindfolded, sleep-deprived and in a state of extreme fear.” In June 2013, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) issued a report stating that thousands of Palestinian children were systematically injured, tortured, and used as human shields by Israel. Despite all of this, the BBC and other media outlets display a blatant hierarchy of victims when it comes to the occupation of Palestine, and it seems that Palestinian children are right at the bottom of it. As Israel launched its largest military assault on the West Bank in over a decade, Israeli mobs roamed the streets chanting Death to Arabs. One Palestinian youth was then kidnapped and his mutilated body was found scorched and burned some time later. The statistics highlight the urgent need to end the occupation and the cycle of violence that it perpetuates - children are paying the price for it.
