Āyurveda recognises the physical constitution to be composed of three active principles and that these principles are constantly subject to imbalance. Imbalances can arise internally as mental suffering or externally through physical suffering brought about by improper lifestyle or modified by environmental factors. Āyurveda uses the term dosha (that which spoils) to describe three forces or actions that regulate and maintain the body. When imbalanced, dosha leads to diminished health and, if left unattended, eventually manifests as disease. If the body’s ability to repel disease is compromised (as in the case of low immunity) then the end result can be death. When balanced and in harmony, dosha maintains health and vitality and subsequently supports a strong immune system. - Andrew Mason, author
