It was invented in 1990 by two computer scientists “Tim Berners Lee” from Britain and “Robert Cailliau” from Belgium. 5. When and where did they invent this system? Why? At the time, they were both working at a physical laboratory in Switzerland. They invented the system to help scientists to share ideas and information. 6. When did the Internet become public? How did it grow? In 1993 the internet became public and it grew very fast. 7. By whom is the internet used today? Today it is used by millions of people all over the world and its use is still growing. 8. What do you need if you want to “go online”? To go online, all you need is a computer and an Internet router or wi-fi. 9. What did a recent survey show in the United States? A recent survey showed that 82% of teenagers are sending and receiving e-mail. 10. What is the other “online activity” among teens in America? The other “online activity” among teens is instant message (IM). 11. What is the percentage of American teens that have listened to music or have downloaded it from the Internet? Over 80% have listened to music online and 50% have downloaded music from the Internet. 12. What is the percentage of American teens that are not using the Internet at all?
