التحالف العربي من أجل السودان منذ 4 ساعات December 14, 2014 Weekly Report Brief Failure of negotiations between the government and the movements leads to military escalation Arab Coalition for Sudan Cairo, Follow Up Immediately after the collapse of the stalled negotiations between the delegations of the Sudanese government and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM/North) on the Blue Nile and South Kordofan, in conjunction with the failure of Darfur negotiations, fighting has renewed heavily in the state of South Kordofan. The news of battles between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) forces, were covered in all Sudanese newspapers with media escalation from SAFs spokesperson and minister of defense. The negotiating delegations failed to agree on an agenda for the talks, due to the variations in points of views as tabled in the current round. Meanwhile, SPLM/North accused the governing party of trying to buy time in order to hold elections to impose a fait accompli, the governing party, from its part, accused SPLM/N of being captive to foreign parties to prolong the war, while the autonomy to the two areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile) which was raised by the SPLM/N, during this round, was faced with rejection by the government of Sudan (GoS). News about the campaign against the detention of Farouq Abu eissa, the chairman of the National Consensus Forces (NCF) and D. Amin Mekki Medani, the head of the Confederation of Sudanese Civil Society Organizations (CSCSO) and other leaders from Sudan Call forces, are widespread in newspapers and social media. Meanwhile, a legal group was formed to defend the detainees, it included lawyer Nabil Adib, the human rights defender, who revealed that the group is going to lodge an appeal to the Constitutional Court against these arrests. In the same context, the preparatory session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, will discuss the arrests of Farouk Abu Issa and D. Amin Madani, as cited by hurriyatsudan newspaper. Also, Nazar Abdelgadir, the Director of Geneva Institute for Human Rights, reiterated that the preparatory meeting for the Human Rights Council, will discuss the recent arrests in Sudan, most notably Abu Issa and D. Madani arrests, Abdelgadir added, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is concerned about these arrests and expected to issue a statement in this regard. The detainees families complained about the security apparatus refusal to visit their loved ones, as well as it prevented providing the detainees - who have special needs- with their medications and health care. Further, Sudan was scored in the third place among the most corrupted countries in the world, according to the latest corruption perceptions index, issued by Transparency International in December third, this year.
