من پیش از این تصور می کردم که مهمترین منبع درباره ی هخامنشیان ، کتاب هرودت یعنی تواریخ است . تا این که با خواندن متونی درباره ی اسناد دیوان یا بایگانی سلطنتی تخت جمشید که به دست پروفسور ارنست هرتسفلد یافته شد ، از اشتباه خارج شدم . ظاهرا یافتن این گنجینه ی بزرگ که بعدها به دست ایشان به شیکاگو منتقل شد ، پرده ی ابهام را درباره ی تاریخ هخامنشیان برداشت . حالا این اسناد مهم که به شکل گل رس هستند کجا هستند : ظاهرا در انفجاری در بیت المقدس عده ای از اتباع آمریکا کشته می شوند و حماس رسما این کشتار را بر عهده می گیرد . خانواده ی قربانیان درخواست خسارت می کنند و در سال 2001 میلادی دادگاه در خواست انها را که ضد حماس و ایران ( به عنوان حامی اصلی ) اقامه شده بود ، می پذیرد و مقرر می شود ، از اموال بلوکه ی ایران در آمریکا استفاده شود . از جمله ی اموالی که فروخته شد همین لوحه های گلین است که در دانشگاه شیکاگو قرار داشت . اینها فروخته شد تا از محل آن نزدیک به 72 میلیون دلار به عنوان دیه و 300 میلیون دلار به عنوان خسارات وارده تادیه شود و در اختیار اسرائیلی ها قرار گیرد ... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Landmark lawsuit Persepolis Fortification Archive is caught in the middle of a landmark lawsuit in the U.S. Federal Court system.[42] In 1997 five American tourists were killed and many more were wounded when terrorists set off suitcase bombs in a shopping mall in Jerusalem. The Palestinian organization Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombings.[7] In 2001 the survivors of the attack and their family members brought lawsuits against Hamas and Iran, claiming Iran had provided financial and logistical support to Hamas. The court agreed and awarded $71.5 million in compensatory damages and $300 million in punitive damages from Iran to the plaintiffs. In order to collect on the judgment, the plaintiffs sued a number of U.S. museums in 2004, in an attempt to appropriate various Iranian artifacts and collections and sell them to satisfy the claim for damages. Oriental Institute and the Persepolis Fortification Archive were among this group.[42] The case, Rubin v. The Islamic Republic of Iran, is currently in litigation at various courts. At the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the case is in the discovery phase during which the plaintiffs have requested information about all Persian artifacts in the Oriental Institute’s collection, as well as all of Iran’s assets in the U.S.[43] Oriental Institute is ordered by the U.S. federal courts to retain the Persepolis Fortification Archive tablets in place until the end of the litigation.[44]
