نداء العذراء في مديوغوريه للصلاة من اجل السلام في الشرق الاوسط، خصوصاً في سورية: “It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.” Matthew 9 : 12 Syria is a nation in much need of healing, and Pope Franicis has requested that we keep praying for the needs of Syria and it suffering people. On Thursday 26 September, the Church celebrates the feast of two saints associated with Syria – Cosmas and Damian, twin brothers and physicians. Many healings have been attributed to their intercession. In the church there is a custom of preparing for an important celebration with a period of nine days of prayer called a Novena. The first Novena took place after Jesus ascended into heaven: the Acts of the Apostles tells us that Mary, the Mother of Jesus joined with the disciples of Jesus in continuous prayer. From Wednesday 25 September until Friday 4 October, we can celebrate the feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian by keeping Nine Days of Prayer for Syria, asking the ‘holy healers’ to intercede for all the people. The prayer below has been submitted by a priest who is encouraging many to undertake the Novena for the needs of the people of Syria.
