अरिपन - मिथिला लोक-कला | Aripan - Folk Paintings Of Mithila region The Aripan painting is very auspicious and famous in the whole Mithila region. It has been derived form Sanskrit Alepan which means to smear, and therefore smearing basically refers to the ground with cow dung and clay for ritual purification of space. It is also called Mandala. This Aripan art is drawn on the several auspicious occasions, and one of them is Lakshmi Puja or Deepawali during the Tihar Festival. Aripan is drawn and depicted for purification and beautification of a piece of ground. It is made with Rice paste and Vermilion dots by hand. In pictures: Ashtdal Kamal (style of Lotus ) Aripan is made to welcome Goddess Lakshmias part of Maithil traditions. So, it is painted on the main entrance gate of a house, thresholds and courtyards or in Puja (worship) room.
