आत्मा कः (what is aatma) is the further inquiry of student. Basic question of all ‘ Who am I ?’ Am I Daughter? Sister? Wife? Mother? Student? Teacher? The form of ‘I’ keeps changing hence to understand this ‘I’ we need the help of Guru. अवस्थात्रय साक्षी = observer of all three (avstha) state सच्चिदानन्दस्वरूपः सन् = Nature of which is Sat-chit-Anand roopam य : तिष्ठति = the one who stay सः = that आत्मा = Aatma What is Aatma? Aatma is the one who is observer of all three states (avstha), beyond five sheaths, separate from gross, subtle and casual body. That sat-chit-anand roopam is Aatma. Aatma is like स्फटिक [समीपवर्तिनि पदार्थे स्वधर्मम् आदधाति इति उपाधि : ] with whichever color u put it, it will appeared like that. If u put it with red cloth/flower it appeared red. In similar fashion Anantma is title/tag(उपाधि) given to Aatma. ‘I’ keeps on changing during my three state of awake, dream, deep-sleep. Some or other title/tag I always carry. Am I Daughter? Sister? Wife? Mother? Student? Teacher? Hence to know the knower Guru answers : Since you can observer gross body, feel through manh subtle body. So you are different than that for sure. Since you can inference the thoughts, emotions etc you are not even casual body. Moreover I know about five sheaths hence I’m beyond that. I am observer of all three state (awake, dream and deep-sleep) hence Aatma ‘I’ is different from it. Aatma is sat-chit-anad roopam. Sat- existence (अस्तित्व स्वरुप) chit – knowledge (jyaan roop) and Anand means infinite (अनन्त) and uninterrupted (अपरिच्छिन्न). स्थूल सूक्ष्म कारण शरीर, पञच कोश and त्रय अवस्था is limited. They are illuminated by Aatma. Tattvabodh
