*** No writer should write Prime Minister Bhim Sen Thapa or Amar Singh Thapa as Magars because there is no evidence as such to write so. And, let me echo what you have said below and add little bit more to your statement that there are too many others out there such as: Vidya Prakash Tyagi (Martial Races of Undivided India 2009: 51) and also Bandana Rai (Gurkha: The Warrior Race 2009: 156) both have shared but wrong information about Gorkhali Kaji Biraj Thapa Magar fighting Nuwakot battle ! It is because they receive wrong information. There are some fundamental flaws here: chronology and actual persons. There is yet another book by Lakshman Bahadur Hamal (Military History of Nepal 1995:90), not very seriously written though, that Biraj Thapa fought Nuwakot battle ! What a wrong history ! There was no Biraj Thapa in Prithvi Narayan Shahs time. There was a certain Biraj Bakheti in this kings time as stated in the Divyopadesh also but he was by no means any Kaji Biraj Thapa Magar definitively . Writers have incorrectly written Biraj Thapa Magar as fighting Nuwakot Battle of Asoj 1801 Bikram Sambat for Prithvi Narayan Shah. Biraj Thapa Magar was one of the two Kajis appointed by King Prithvi Narayan Shahs great grand father King Prithvi Pati Shah (Gorkhavanshavali 2009 BS: 72). Four years after Narbhupal Shahs accession to the throne of Gorkha in 1717 Kaji Biraj Thapa Magar died in 1721 which was 2 years before the birth of Prithvi Narayan Shah in 1723. The other Kaji was Shrijayant Shah. But, yes after Kaji Biraj Thapa Magars death, his son Ram Krishna Thapa Magar was appointed Kaji and that new Kaji had fought Nuwakot battle.
