True to his name, he was Vasheekrata Hrisheeka the one who has control over all his senses. Sri Sumadhwa vijaya gives glimpses of his life. He preserved Sri Madhwacharyas works by personally writing it. Sri Palimaaru Mutt is first among the 8 famous monasteries established in Udupi by Sri Madhwacharyaru. ***** The icon of Kodanda Rama with Lakshmana and Sita, presented by Sri Madhwacharyaru to the first Peethaadhipati, Sri Hrishikesha Theertharu, is worshipped here. The icons of Rama and Lakshmana have bows and arrows in their hands whereas that of Sita has a lotus in her hand. The then Peethaadhipati of Palimaru Mutt gave up his position. The 30th Shreegalu in the lineage, Sri Vidyamanya Theertharu, was the next Peethaadhipati. He accepted the position and continued to be in charge of his own Bhandarakeri Mutt as well. He initiated two junior Swamijis, one for each of the Mutts under his charge. The Shreegalu of Palimaru Mutt, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertharu was initiated at the age of 24 years in the year 1979. Palimaaru is a village from the temple town Udupi. Right in front of this entrance is the shrine of Anjaneya Swamy (MukhyaPraana Devaru), in the sitting posture. The deity is held in great awe and reverence, as the protector of Madhwa Siddhanta. The Mukhya Praana idol is believed to have been installed by Sri Raghupraveera Theertharu, the 24th pontiff, during the 1780s, It is said the idol was discovered by him, in the tank of the Mukhya Praana temple, at Ghatikaachala Kshethra. The principles of Supremacy of Sri Hari and the Superiority of Sri Mukhya Praana amongst all animate beings, as propounded by Sriman Madhwacharyaru, resonate in the sacred valley of Ghatikachala. The 30th pontiff was Sri Vidyaamaanyatheertharu, who was with us till the year 2000. He was entrusted the responsibility of heading Palimaaru Mutt, in addition to being the pontiff of Bhandaarakeri Mutt. He was the only pontiff, after Sri Vishnutheertharu – the brother of Srimadaachaaryaru – to be the head of two Mutts concurrently. Under the leadership and guidance of Sri Vidyamanya Theertharu, more than 20 scholastically researched granthas have been brought out.
