অনেকে বলে ছবি তোলা এক বিষয় আর অংকন আরেক বিষয়। কিন্তু তারা শুধু ধারনার বশবর্তী হয়ে এ ধরনের বক্তব্য দিয়ে থাকে। তারা ছবি (পটোগ্রাফ) এর সঠিক বৈজ্ঞানিক ব্যাখ্যা জানেনা বলেই এ ধরনের বক্তব্য দিয়ে থাকে। ছবি বা পটোগ্রাফ একথার মধ্যেই অংকন কথাটা রয়ে গেছে। The word photography was created from the Greek roots φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), light and γραφή (graphé) representation by means of lines or drawing, together meaning drawing with light.( Wekepedia) অর্থাৎ আলোর দ্বারা অংকন। যদিও আমরা ছবিকে ইংরেজিতে বলি পটো বা আলো।মূলত: পটো বা আলো নয়, শব্দটি হবে পটোগ্রাফ বা আলোর দ্বারা অংকিত চিত্র। সুতরাং, ক্যামেরার মাধ্যমে তোলা ছবি মূলত আলোর দ্বারা অংকিত ছবি অর্থাৎ হাতে অাঁকার মতই তোলা ছবিও এক ধরনের অংকিত ছবি। Photography is the science, art and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film, or electronically by means of an image sensor. Journal of Film and Video 45 (1): 3–12.) ক্যামেরা হচ্ছে অন্ধকার কুঠুরি যেখানে শুধু ঐ আলো প্রবেশ করানো হয় যে আলো ছবি তৈরি করে। ছবি তোলা ও অাঁকা একই। একটা আলোর দ্বারা আঁকা আর অপরটা তুলির দ্বারা অাঁকা। কাজেই উভয়ের হুকুমও এক অর্থাৎ উভয়ভাবেই প্রাণির ছবি অংকন নিষেধ।
