ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘু দের অনশনের ডাক সেপ্টেম্বর - ২৮ । Religious minorities will observe a dawn to dusk hunger strike in the capital’s Central Shaheed Minar premises on September 28 demanding that the government abolishes schedule “Kha” of the Vested Property Return (Amendment) Act 2013 and withdraws Debottor (Endowment) Property Management Bill 2013. Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad, declared the strike at a rally the parishad organised in the Shaheed Minar premises yesterday. The act was formulated for the return of properties left behind by Hindus during the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War. Schedule “Ka” lists the properties under government custody while schedule “Kha” lists those that are not and which have been taken over by individuals. Speakers at the rally said unscrupulous land officials, in order to harass the minorities, were intentionally listing under schedule “Kha” properties of the minorities which were never vested properties in the first place. Moreover, the communities wanted formulation of a bill to ensure the recovery of endowment properties, meaning those donated honouring the deities, and to prohibit their trade, they said. However, the government formulated a bill for “proper development and management of endowment properties”, they added. They alleged that the act and bill would make it easy for land grabbers to encroach on properties and on places of worship of the minorities. Afterwards, several hundred members of the communities headed towards Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, stating that they would submit a memorandum containing their demands to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. When police barred them before Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, a four-member delegation, including Rana and Prof Nim Chandra Bhoumik, left for the destination with the memorandum around 5:30pm.
