ভারতে ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারদের মৃত্যুর হার সবচেয়ে বেশী। বেসরকারী সংস্থা ইন্টারন্যাশনাল রেঞ্জার ফেডারেশন (আই.আর.এফ) এর জরীপে এ তথ্য পাওয়া গেছে। গত ৩ বছরে ভারতে ৭২ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয় যা এশিয়ার অন্যান্য দেশ,আফ্রিকা এবং আমেরিকার একই পেশার এ রকম হত্যাকান্ডের ঘটনার তুলনায় অনেক অনেক বেশী । এসব দেশে গত ৩ বছরে গড়ে ১০ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয়। আই.আর.এফ আরো জানায় যে এ সব হত্যাকান্ডের ৬০% ঘটেছে এশিয়ার দেশসমূহে। ২০১২ সনে ভারতে ৩৪ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয় । ঐ বছর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে হত্যা করা হয় ৬ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে যা ছিল দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ। ২০১৩ সনে ভারতে ১৪ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয় । ঐ বছরে ফিলিপাইন ও কঙ্গোতে ৯ জন করে এবং কাজাখাস্তান ও চাদ এ ৬ জন করে এবং উগান্ডায় ৭ জন রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয়। ২০১৪ সনে এ পর্যন্ত ভারতে ২৪ জন ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে যা কেনিয়ায় হত্যা করা ১০ জন রেঞ্জারের সংখ্যার দ্বিগুণেরও বেশী। থাইল্যান্ডে হত্যা করা হয়েছে ৬ জনকে এবং তানজানিয়াতে ৩ জনকে। (চোরাই কাঠ পাচারকারী ও বন্যপ্রাণী শিকারীদের প্রতিহত করতে গিয়ে এভাবেই প্রাণ দিতে হয়েছে নিবেদিতপ্রাণ এ সব ফরেষ্ট রেঞ্জারগণকে।) Being a Forest ranger in India seems to rank top on the list of jobs with high mortality rates. Based on statistics provided by a non profit organization called IRF (International Ranger Federation), past three years saw the death of 72 forest rangers in India. This number is very high as compared to their counterparts in other countries in Asia, Africa and America which lost less than 10 rangers in the same time frame. The report by IRF states that almost 60% of the death of the rangers by killing is in Asia. In 2012, there were 34 forest rangers deaths in India as compared to 6 deaths in the United States which was second on the list. In 2013, India lost 14 forest rangers. In the same year, Philippines & Congo lost 9 rangers each, Kazakhstan and Chad each lost 6 rangers and Uganda lost 7. This year itself, 24 forest rangers have been killed in India which is significantly higher as compared to 10 rangers in Kenya which takes the second place.
