சிங்கள தேசத்தில் இப்படியான பிரசாரம் என்ன விளைவுகளைக் கொடுக்கும்? Sirisena reneged on vow made on casket of Buddha’s relics – Sangha Nayake Thera December 18, 2014, 12:00 pm Ven. Piyananda Thera Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena was not trustworthy and should be shunned by all Buddhists for he had reneged a promise he had made by placing his hands on a casket containing the sacred relics of the Buddha, Chief Sanghanayake of the US, Dr. Walpola Piyananda Thera said. Addressing a public rally organised by the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna at Sathosa Auditorium at Homagama on Wednesday evening Ven. Piyananda Thera said Sirisena had sworn by the casket of relics of the Buddha in the presence of JHU’s Ven. Ellawela Medhananda that he would never desert the President or the SLFP. Sirisena took that oath by placing both hands on the casket of relics brought to Temple Trees in view of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday. A person who does not honour such a solemn pledge could not be considered a Buddhist. All the Buddhists should shun such a person, the Nayaka Thera said. Not only Buddhists, but also all other religions should stay away from such an untrustworthy person. Catholics would never renege on a vow taken on the Holy Bible. And the Muslims would never break a promise made on the Holy Quran. For us nothing is holier than the Buddha’s relics. Sirisena 24 hours after swearing on the relic casket joined the Opposition leaving the President and the SLFP. A person capable of lying with both hands on a relic casket can betray anyone, Ven Piyananda said. Sirisena seems to be working on instructions from a foreign power. He has shunned the Arya Sinhala national dress to wear an alien jacket. People should understand this and must do their part to defeat this threat to national interests, Ven Piyananda said. MEP leader Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, addressing the gathering said that the MEP had always represented the progressive forces of the country. We have always been with the progressive forces. We never joined hands with reactionaries. The reactionary forces are led by the UNP. We never allied with forces that betray the independence and sovereignty of this country. Will never do so and ask the people to support the progressive camp. Leader of the House of the Western Provincial Council, Gamini Thilakasiri, former MP Somaweera Chandrasiri, Chairman of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha Ruwan Prabodha, MEP Vice Chairman and Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena, Chief of MEP Youth Conference Yadamini Gunawardena and local government members of the Homagama, Maharagama, Seethawaka and Kesbewa also addressed the rally. island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=116206
