மூலிகை : திருநாமப்பாலை (மலைத்தாமரை) Botanical name : Smilax ovalifolia Common name:. Sarsaparilla, salsaparrilha, khao yen, saparna, smilace, smilax, zarzaparilla, jupicanga Ayurvedic uses: A powerful anti biotic medicinal plant in ayurveda. The roots are used as a substitute for Sarsaparilla in the treatment of venereal disease. Among the santals, they are applied for rheumatism and pains in the lower extremities. The inhabitants of Nepal give them in doses of three mashas, for the treatment of gonorrhoea and other discharges from mucous membrane. The mundas of Chota Nagpur use the root in bloodless dysentery. It is given in urinary complaints and dysentery. • The crushed roots of Mimosa pudica and Smilax zeylanica are applied to boils (Chakma). • Roots are eaten for the treatment of venereal diseases and skin troubles. Decoction of the bulbous root is given for sores and dysentery. Leaves are used for ulcer and gonorrhea (Marma). • Root is taken as masticatory substance for the remedy of toothache and pyorrhea (Khumi).
