This means the revenue grew to 13.86%. Revenue department officials said that the increase in commercial taxes in Q1 of this fiscal year stood at 5.96% as it rose from Rs5,858.31 crore in (Q1 of last fiscal) to Rs6,207.41 crore ( in Q1 of this fiscal). Meanwhile, the revenue in Q2 grew 22.35% which means the revenue rose from Rs5,454.73 crore (Q2 of last fiscal) to 6,673.83 crore (Q2 of this fiscal). The jump in revenue was due to spurt in consumption of “home needs” and “petro products” which rose to 20% and 11% respectively. Further, VAT and CST recorded a growth rate of 4%. The Chief Minister has asked the revenue department to explore setting up Economic Intelligence Units on lines of Maharashtra government which uses advanced digital technologies to store and interpret data collected by the state’s sales tax department. On review with transport department officials, the Chief Minister suggested that transport vehicles be fitted with a GPS tracker. For out-of-state vehicles, the Chief Minister said that screening points could be installed at Tada and Ichapuram check posts initially and then be installed at 8 check posts in the state where out-of-state vehicles enter into the state. The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over transport department having the least Aadhar enrollment rate – with 2%. He added that all the drivers’ and vehicle owners’ Aadhar cards could be linked to their licenses and directed officials to finish seeding at the earliest. In a review with excise officials, the Chief Minister has asked them to maintain the current growth rate. He, however, directed them to keep tabs on illicit liquor sale and take measures against those selling it. The Chief Minister suggested that officials could study Tamil Nadu’s excise policy where the government sells liquor and has control over it. On coal reserves found recently in Chintalapudi in the Godavari Valley, the Chief Minister said that a team of consultants could survey the deposits and give details to the state government in six months. The Chief Minister said once the details would be out, he would write to the centre to explore the possibility of generating power by utilizing the coal deposits.
