రత్నం పెన్నుల గురించి చాలా మంది వినే ఉంటారు. Founder of Fountain Pen Kosuri Venkatratnam had met Mahatma Gandhi in Wardha in the 1921 when the latter asked Ratnam to produce something which would be useful to the commonman in the country. Ratnam then discussed the Mahatma’s advice with some persons close to him and at their behest started the Pen Industry, which became a full-fledged industry in 1932. Fountain Pens were used by Mahatma Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave, former Presidents of India Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad, Dr Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan, Fakruddin Ali Ahmed, Zakir Hussain, VV Giri, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, former Prime Ministers Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Sastri, Indira Gandhi, US President Eisenhower, German Chancellors Arbhalnon and Thomson and Russian President Kruschev, Maharajas of Mysore, Jaipur, Rewa, Pithapuram, Vizianagaram, Indian Express founder Ramnath Goenka, The Hindu founder Nyapati Subba Rao Panthulu, Chintamani and many other towering personalities across the globe, along with many Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh. దేశంలోని ప్రముఖ వ్యక్తులు చాలామంది రత్నం పెన్నునే వాడేవారు. ఆ పెన్నుతో మహాత్మా గాంధీ వ్రాసిన ఉత్తరం క్రింద చూడొచ్చు. ఈ రత్నం పెన్ పుట్టిల్లు రాజమహేంద్రవరం.
