A staff member writes: Daffodil is a goodhearted, shy miss who is unable to find comfort in such chaotic surroundings. Upon arrival, she viewed her kennel as a sanctuary, curling up quietly against the back wall. But the unfamiliar sights and sounds are impossible to escape and they have now taken hold of our unsuspecting girl. Daffodil is easily startled. Howling at the sound of a banging door then rising up on her hind legs to hard bark at a passerby, she is finding it increasingly difficult to control her anxiety while confined. When her fear is triggered it takes some time for her to regain her composure. Daffodil is on display when all she really wants is to be left alone. But she recognizes that the leash invites a change of scene and so she will trustingly follow her handler into the backyard without much fuss. Here she is less on edge, though her body remains tense as she walks, eyes wide and wandering. Daffodil accepts comfort when coaxed close and begins to relax the more she is handled. When Daffodil encounters another dog we catch glimpses of her truest self. She play bows and vocalizes without reservation, perhaps remembering a time when she was carefree and happy. Daffodil did well on her behavioral assessment and is beginning to trust a select few. Need I say it? Daffodil is a delicate flower who needs a safe, quiet place and a gentle approach. She is a smart girl.
