Ḥāritha ibn Surāqa (may Allah be well pleased with him) One day as the Messenger of Allah (may Allahs peace and mercy be upon him) was walking he was greeted by a young man from the Anṣār. The Prophet (Allahs peace and mercy be upon him) said, How is your state this morning, Ḥārith? He replied, This morning, I have become a complete believer in Allah. The Prophet said, Be careful of what you say, for every claim [must have] its proofs. Ḥāritha said, O Messenger of Allah, my soul has turned away from the world: I stay up at night [in worship], and am thirsty during the day [i.e. due to fasting]. It is as if I see the Throne of my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, apparent before my very eyes; and it is as if I see the people of Paradise visiting one another; and it is as if I see the people of the Fire in its midst. The Prophet said, Remain steadfast. This is a servant whose faith Allah has made luminous in his heart. * * * Ḥāritha was one of the martyrs at Badr. When the news of his passing reached his mother she came to the Prophet and said, O Messenger of Allah, if he is in Paradise, I will not cry or grieve. But if he is in the Fire, I will cry as long as I live in this world. The Messenger of Allah said, O Mother of Ḥāritha, it is not just one [level of] Paradise, but it consists of many Gardens; and Ḥāritha is in the Highest Firdaws! May Allah envelop Sayyiduna Ḥāritha in His good pleasure and may we be united with the righteous in the hereafter. Taken from Asad ul-Ghābah by Imam Ibn Al-Athīr
