— The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has trimmed the number of governorship aspirants in its fold from 29 to nine. Any candidate presented by the party would face the incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2014 governorship election in the state. The state Chairman of the party, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe, said in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, that the decision was taken in the interest of the people of the state Ogundipe who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Femi Omolusi, said the State Working Committee of the party will select a viable and serious-minded candidate. Though, the party did not make public the names of the aspirants that made the list, Vanguard gathered that the nine aspirants were those said to be more serious and have what it takes to govern the state, known as ‘Fountain of Knowledge.’ On the issue of consensus that has rocked the party, Ogundipe said it was only the national secretariat of the party that could decide on the process to be adopted in choosing the party’s standard bearer. The PDP chairman, however, hailed all the aspirants for their efforts in mobilising people to the party. He said: “The effort of the aspirants in galvanising support for our great party is laudable. They have been going round, giving messages of hope to our members and assuring them that our party will return to power in the state next year
