If you cut it down then you’ll never know 楓樹能長到多高 如果你砍倒它，那你永遠無法知道 And you’ll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon For whether we are white or copper skinned We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain Need to paint with all the colors of the wind You can own the earth and still all you’ll own is earth Until you can paint with all the colors of the wind 你將永遠聽不見狼對著藍月嗥叫的聲音 不論我們的膚色是白色或古銅色 我們應該隨著群山的聲音歌唱 我們應該用風的顏色來畫畫 你可以擁有大地 但你所有的就只是荒蕪 除非你可以用風的顏色來作畫 本曲中譯取自安德森之夢。 早住民用自然主義的語調，對新移民的柔性訴求，聽來蠻有感覺的，歌曲本身是美的，是動聽的，歌詞的說法，我是經由中譯後，才有了更深刻的感受。 歌名叫「風的顏色」，乍然聽之，不知該怎麼解釋，仔細想想，「風的顏色」是指風吹拂所經過的色彩，那是山川林野原始而豐富的色彩，所以風的顏色就是大自然原始而豐富的顏色。至於曲末所呼喊的，「我們應該用風的顏色來畫畫」，就是呼籲畫畫的人們應該用大自然的顏色作畫囉!這樣解釋當然不對，又不是辯論美術流派，在這裡，畫已隱喻為生命的內容，人生就像畫畫一樣，由自己決定畫的主題為何?內容為何?有無故事?用何種方式表達情感?色彩、線條、構圖、透視、景深……，因此呼籲人們繪製自己生命內容時，應以尊重大自然的精神為主軸，否則人類所主宰的地球將淪為荒蕪的大地。 這歌兒是在哥倫布發現新大陸(1492年)滿500年後的隔三年發行的。1996年奧斯卡、金球獎、葛萊美皆獲最佳電影原創歌曲獎，電影是華納公司的動畫長片「風中奇緣（Pocahontas）」，Pocahontas是一位新大陸被發現時的印第安少女。動畫電影上映後，全世界不認識這名兒的人應該很少了。 1992年，也就是哥倫布發現新大陸滿500年那一年，一部由擅長古代戰爭片的導演雷利史考特(Ridley Scott,1937年生,英國人)拍攝的電影「哥倫布(1492: Conquest of Paradise)」，帶著歷史的紀念意圖發行上映，票房雖然欠佳，但是故事說得頗吸引人。電影並不全然表彰航海家的冒險精神，對於冒險精神之後所發生的事件，亦能站在歷史長河的左右兩岸，擷取古人的精神與錯誤，是一部有誠意的電影。這部電影的配樂由希臘籍音樂家Vangelis負責，他著名的「火戰車」電影主題音樂，精湛動人，我預估200年後的世界，當人們描寫20世紀的音樂時，Vangelis的「火戰車」定是20世紀無法被忽略的音樂，就像現在的我們，無法忽略18世紀貝多芬的第3號交響曲一樣。 我們也來聽聽Vangelis的「1492: Conquest of Paradise」電影主題音樂 https://youtube/watch?v=Unt8tZPq5C0 「colors of the wind」與「1492: Conquest of Paradise」兩首音樂創作，均為當代的大眾藝術家站在歷史河岸遙望著500年前，對著同一件重大的歷史事件所作出的詮釋，他們詮釋的角度與理念無可避免地受當代價值的影響，也必需與當代的主流價值連結。「克服險阻探索世界」與「崇尚自然尊重大地」，都是令人欣然神往的價值大纛，在同一個秋夜，聽完了這兩首曲子後，想想這兩種價值在實踐時可能的矛盾與衝突，以及可能的融合與並進，兀自沉思了起來。
