She would shout out, “Daddy! Daddy!” in endearing voice and my arm became her pillow when she slept. Because Yu-min worried about the financial challenges faced by our family, she did not mention any school trips for she didn’t want to burden her father. Yu-min should have been immediately and with all means, rescued. Horrifically, no one rescued her. No one attempted to rescue her and I had to see her drown in front of my very own eyes. It was simply horrific to see the Sewol Ferry sink along with my precious child Yu-min in it. It is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE to find out and to know why she had to die like that and why she was not rescued when she COULD HAVE BEEN RESCUED. It is critical for us to find out the TRUTH, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so that this type of horrible disaster may never reoccur. We simply asked for a SPECIL LAW that allows an independent inquiry into the Sewol tragedy by commissioning an unbiased team of investigators to conduct a fair and independent probe into the tragedy. We wanted the Special Law that would allow to prosecute and punish all those accountable for the Sewol Disaster. The Park Regime and the ruling party, Seanuri, who are suspected of being pertinent responsible parties of this unspeakable tragedy, are refusing to negotiate with the bereaved families of the Sewol Tragedy. Moreover, they have slandered and defamed the bereaved families’ earnest request. This is a true case of a “smoking gun.” I have begun to fast and have not eaten for 34 days to protest the egregious and outright negligence on the part of the Park Regime and the ruling party. I cannot bear to live without finding out why and how my daughter had to die like that. Even if I pay the price with my life, I am not afraid. I must know why my daughter died and who is responsible for her death. I am determined to continue fasting until the truth, the whole truth is revealed and will not leave the Kwang-hwa Moon until the Special Sewol Law is enacted and passed through the legislative branch of the government. I have heard that our Pope is a MAN of God who cherishes peace and human dignity. I have also heard that you are with the people who are impoverished and powerless. Please remember us, the grief-stricken families of the Sewol Tragedy. I have fasted for over a month so that I can find out the truth about my daughter’s death. While our Papa has come to greet me, President Park has neither sent an envoy to console me or has she come personally to meet her citizens. She has been ignoring our outcries for truth. I have been crying and fasting for 34 days now. It is a miracle that I am still alive. Thanks to my daughter, Yu-min who is with me in my heart, I live and will continue to live. This disaster is not only personal to me. The greed-filled world that favors money over human lives is in dire need of saving. The incompetent and corrupt government feed into this system of profit over human lives. This is not simply a Korean tragedy but a universal problem to humanity. I respectfully and desperately ask you Papa Pope that you pressure the Park Regime so that she can enact and pass the Special Sewol Law that the grief-stricken and desperate families want. According to the Scriptures, your Holy Father has ordered the Pope to embrace and care for the disenfranchised and the lonely souls of the world. The grief-stricken Sewol Families are that disenfranchised and lonely souls of South Korea. Please be with us and continue to pray for us and ultimately apply your “HOLY” pressure upon the Park Regime so that the truth of the Sewol Ferry tragedy may be revealed.
