ﺑﺴﻢ الله ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ What to say during and after hearing the Adhan(Call to Prayer): The Sunnah recommends that while the adhan is being proclaimed, one should listen attentively and repeat every line silently after the Muadhdhin(the Call-maker), but when he says: ﺣَﻲَّ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟﺼَّﻼَﺓِ ﻭَﺣَﻲَّ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟْﻔَﻠَﺎﺡِ Hayya `alas-Salah: come for the Prayer and Hayya `ala-l-falah: come to Success one should say: ﻻ ﺣﻮﻻ ﻭﻻ ﻗﻮّﺓ ﺇﻟّﺎ ﺑﺎﻟﻠّﻪ Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah: There is no might or power except with ALLAH. `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As(may Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard the Messenger of ALLAH(Peace be upon him) saying, When you hear the Adhan, repeat what the Muadhdhin says. Then ask ALLAH to exalt my mention because everyone who does so will receive in return ten rewards from ALLAH. Then beseech ALLAH to grant me Al-Wasilah(Dua in the picture above), which is a high rank in Jannah, fitting for only one of ALLAHs slaves; and I hope that I will be that man. If anyone asks Al-Wasilah for me, it becomes incumbent upon me to intercede for him(on the Day of Judgement). - S. Al-Muslim. The Prophet(Peace and Blessings be upon him) said: When you hear the Muaththin calling for the Prayer, repeat his words then ask ALLAHs Blessings upon me, because the one who asks ALLAHs Blessings upon me once will be Rewarded ten Blessings by ALLAH. - S. Al-Muslim. There are many recitations of Salaawatullah `alan-Nabiy(sending Blessings of ALLAH to the Prophet Pbuh), and one of such Salawah as ordered by the Prophet(s.a.w) to be sent upon him was: ﺍﻟﻠﻬﻢ ﺻــﻞ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﻭ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺁﻝ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﻛﻤﺎ ﺻﻠﻴﺖ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺇﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻢ ﻭ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺁﻝ ﺇﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻢ إﻧﻚ ﺣﻤﻴﺪ ﻣﺠﻴﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻬﻢ ﺑﺎﺭﻙ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﻭ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺁﻝ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﻛﻤﺎ ﺑﺎﺭﻛﺖ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺇﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻢ ﻭ ﻋﻠٰﯽ ﺁﻝ ﺇﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻢ إﻧﻚ ﺣﻤﻴﺪ ﻣﺠﻴﺪ Allaahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin, kamaa sallayta `alaa Ibraaheema wa `alaa aali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedun Majeed. Allaahumma Baarik `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin kamaa baarakta `alaa Ibraaheema wa `alaa aali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedun Majeed. O ALLAH, Bestow YOUR Favor on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as YOU Bestowed YOUR Favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim, for YOU are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. O ALLAH, Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as YOU Blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, for YOU are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. Also, the hearer should say after hearing the Adhan): ﻭَﺃَﻧَﺎ ﺃَﺷَْﻬَﺪُ ﺃَﻥْ ﻟَﺎ ﺇِﻟَﻪَ ﺇِﻟَّﺎ ﺍﻟﻠﻪُ ﻭَﺣْﺪَﻩُ ﻟَﺎ ﺷَﺮِﻳﻚَ ﻟَﻪُ ﻭَﺃَﻥَّ ﻣُﺤَﻤَّﺪﺍً ﻋَﺒْﺪُﻩُ ﻭَﺭَﺳُﻮﻟُﻪُ، ﺭَﺿِﻴﺖُ ﺑِﺎﻟﻠﻪِ ﺭَﺑَّﺎً ﻭَﺑِﻤُﺤَﻤَّﺪٍ ﺭِﺳُﻮﻻً ﻭَﺑِﺎﻹِْﺳﻼَﻡِ ﺩِﻳﻨﺎً Wa anaa ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illallaah, wahdahü laa shareeka lahu wa anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa Rasüluhu, radheetu billaahi Rabban, wa bi-Muhammadin Rasoolan wa bil Islaami deenan: And I also bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship but ALLAH alone, One is HE, no partner hath HE, and that Muhammad is HIS Slave and HIS Messenger. I am pleased with ALLAH as my Lord, with Muhammad(peace be upon him) as my Messenger and with Islam as my Religion. S. Al-Muslim Finally; The Prophet(Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Repeat the words of the Muaththin and when you finish(along with the Muaththin), ask ALLAH what you want and you will get it- Abu Daawud, classed Hasan-Sahih. The Supplication made between the Adhan and the Iqamah is not rejected. - Anas ibn Malik(ALLAH be Pleased with him). Note: Islam is so simple that, it has made Religion or Faith not compulsory upon anyone, but appearently and clearly stated that Islam is the only Right Path and the only acceptable Religion before our Creator, ALLAH - the Lord of the entire Universe. So to say in essence, it is not compulsory to recite all the contents above, but atleast to try as much or as little as we can afford to get closer to ALLAH and seek HIS Blessings in shaa ALLAH by doing our best. May Allah Help us understand HIS Religion and get closer to HIM in the best of manners, Ameen.
