“Aitys” - Kazakh traditional speech mastery competition started at SDU On April 24, 2014, a start was given for “Aitys” - Kazakh traditional speech mastery competition at SDU among the students from several countries. This is the V (fifth) annual international students’ contest on their mastery in speaking, debating, and delivering the information. This year, SDU welcomed talented students – akyns from Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China, Turkey and Kazakhstan. The main topic of this time is to discuss the current education system throughout the world and Kazakhstan. Moreover, participants are supposed to confer the topics of international friendship and relations. Traditionally, a word of “aitys” has the meanings of telling, debating, describing and competing. This is Kazakh tradition of eloquence or a kind of speech mastery competition that serve to deliver information and various messages. In majority cases, their messages are formed in satiric ways Akhyns, the competing students on aitys, have been doing their best to discuss the mentioned issues and entertain the aitys fans and international guests of Annual International Conference 6th International Conference, Building Cultural Bridges: Integrating Languages, Linguistics, Literature, Translation and Journalism into Education. In total 16 akhyns are competing with each other and it lasts for two days. They are judged by external experts in this field. The winners of the contest are expected to be awarded with valuable prizes. This fabulous event is supported by “First Presidential Foundation” and the Foundation for supporting the art and culture of Turkic nations “TURKSOY”.
