> Can we talk? My first experience with pepper spray in action involved a guy who was so hopped up he didnt even realize he had been sprayed until about 10 minutes later. Its really expensive to train with a Taser. Few, if any, departments can afford to provide enough training to the level of necessary accuracy to eliminate the threat of a pistol pointed at the officer. Even if the LEO were Annie Oakley, theres no certainty that the Taser will penetrate the clothing on the target. It seems the LEO fired 3 rounds. One hit a car, another has not been found, the other hit the man with the pistol. You dont get three chances with any Taser I know about. Look, I love nearly all of you. But think about this, please. I know some remarkably proficient shooters in LEO forces. At my unimpressive peak I burned about 90+ minutes and maybe $40.00 + per week in ammo keeping my edge up, and I never fired a perfect qualification round. When a church asked me to escort their weekly haul to the bank, I made clear to the pastor that if, God forbid, there ever was an engagement somebody would end up dead or with a life-changing injury. He -- and I love this guy, no disrespect -- asked why I couldnt/wouldnt shoot the bogie in the leg or something. He had, all unwitting, pressed the Lecture on Adrenaline button. So he got both barrels. Ça y est. What people dont get, probably because they believe what they see on their screens, is that when a credible threat of death or serious bodily harm is made, things are only loosely under control. Compost occurs. You point a gun at somebody and he doesnt immediately, obviously, and unambiguously stand down, the game becomes horribly simple: The loser is the one who is unable to fight anymore ... however he gets that way. The winner, if any, is the one whos not the loser. At this time of year we pray that the heavens open, that justice descend like the dewfall. But this is justice, between now and the last things, about animals with minds and adrenal glands. Angels may fight differently. You cannot call back harsh words, a bullet in flight, or an adrenaline dump. And thats the way it is.
