PROGRAMME OFFICER Search Closes 17th October 2014 To apply: Send resume and cover letter to [email protected] The Centre for Citizens’ Participation on the African Union (CCPAU) is seeking to recruit a Programme Officer to support the management of its Nairobi Office. About CCPAU The CCPAU is an independent network of civil society organisations promoting a citizen driven African Union (AU) by facilitating and encouraging the participation of a diverse range of African civil society organisations in the activities of African Union organs and institutions. CCPAU aims to support citizens, states and non-state actors to enhance regional integration by popularising key African Union (AU) policy standards and legal instruments that promote and strengthen good governance, democracy, human rights, and equitable and sustainable development. The organisation uses various methodologies to achieve its mission and goals including knowledge driven advocacy, capacity strengthening and encouraging social organising and networking. The Position The CCPAU Programme Officer (PO) provides strategic programmatic functions of the CCPAU office in Nairobi. The PO is further tasked with conceptualising, designing and implementing programmes, with the support of the Executive Director, that ensures the vision, mission and strategic objectives are met. The PO is also expected to build the profile of CCPAU by building and nurturing relationships with its stakeholders, in particular with AU organs and institutions in as well as outside of Addis Ababa, and Civil Society Organisation (CSO) partners. The successful candidate will have a track record of commitment to human rights, a deep knowledge of the African Union and a strong vision for the continent’s future as a site of justice, equitable development and economic security and inclusion. Qualification and Requirements  be a passionate and vigilant defender of CCPAU values and principles and promote non-discriminatory, respectful and fair dealings inside and outside the organization. Integrity, professionalism and instinctive reliance on the highest moral and fiduciary standards are indispensable in this role in both personal relationships and institutional governance. The successful candidate will possess: An advanced degree in social sciences and at least three years work experience at the regional level with a focus on Pan-African, inter-governmental and non- governmental organisations; A demonstrated understanding of not for profit institutions to include the principles and practices involved in the effective running of complex institutions; Substantive knowledge of the African Union, its organs and institutions, legal instruments, operations and work processes; Proven commitment to the values of social justice and equity; accountability and credibility; Proven aptitude for strategic thinking and planning; Excellent communication skills with a diverse array of people to include the media; Proven ability to organise and coordinate events efficiently; Ability to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment; Strong political analysis and knowledge of the African context; Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills including a proven ability to liaise and mediate between a diverse group of stakeholders (civil society and government officials in particular); Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of written and spoken French, or other official AU languages would be an asset; Excellent organisational skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision, to set priorities and to deliver tasks on time; Willingness to travel extensively and have the ability to manage their responsibilities remotely when necessary.
