[Research on appropriateness of Police’s force on protestor of Umbrella revolution] Summary: Controversy exists on whether police is using appropriate force in handling protestor in Umbrella Revolution. In response to that, we would like to analyze this question from a medical and scientific perspective by conducting a cross-sectional study comparing the action taken by Police Force locally in Hong Kong and globally around the world. This report aims to provide a factual and neutral basis for government, Legislation and Police’s follow up action, discussion ground for general public. We are now recruiting people, both for and against the appropriateness of police’s action, to be a part of it to witness the history of Hong Kong. For supporter of Umbrella Revolution [1] as well as an article written by Professor Ronnie Poon (a high impact article named: “Protect our next generation, please....” [2]), they clearly believe police is using unnecessary violence against protestors despite protestors’ peaceful action. On the other hand, some perceive that police is using the minimal force necessary to up hold rule of law and maintain the harmony of Hong Kong. Objective: This report aims to provide a factual and neutral basis for government, Legislation and Police’s follow up action, discussion ground for general public. Research question: Is police using appropriate force in handling protestor? Null hypothesis : The police is using appropriate force in handling protestor Methdology: This is a cross-sectional study comparing the action taken by Police Force locally in Hong Kong and globally around the world. Emergency admission into all HA hospital from 27th Sept,2014 until whenever appropriate is taken into account, and relevant clinical information is obtained from medical record.
