#TellingTalesTuesday - A Night Prayer Trip After hanging up the phone, I questioned within myself why I even agreed to go; my good friend Matt rang me on the Tele asking if I wanted to join him in celebrating his coworkers birthday. I quickly said sure as I am always game for birthday cake. Matt then informed me I could just meet him at the party around 9 and that the party is being held at Night Trips, a Tulsa strip club. My enthusiasm to go took a nosedive and he knew it but after a bit of arm twisting and teasing name calling, I still agreed to go. I can count on one hand the times I have been to a strip club and honestly wish I had never been. I always figured if I had to pay a woman to see her naked, I was doing life wrong, not to mention you usually leave broke, in the wrong mind and really frustrated... Never been a fan of any of that... *shrugs* I paid the door fee and with a quick scan found Matt and crew posted up around the central bar. I pulled me up a stool and began doing what I always do, observe. Like flies on pooh, the shirtless bar maids hovered around, batting their eyes while whispering sweet nothings in the ears of all the guys in the party. One bar fly flew from pile to pile to pile before all 3 realized she was telling them all the same thing. She silently buzzed off only to be replaced by 3 others echoing her sweet whispers and sadly, the guys fell sucker for most of it, which provided great humor for me. After conversing with a few friends for a hour or two over a couple of beers, I told Matt it was time to make like a tree and get out of there or something....I had all of the compost piles and flies I could handle for one night. I felt dirty and was in need of a shower. Ha! I told everyone peace out and moseyed my way out of the building. It was a beautiful summer night and it felt great to get some fresh air. I parked up the road so I had a small walk to the truck to enjoy such a refreshing night. While taking the stroll, a man and woman came out of the shadows and begin to approach me. I wasnt sure if they wanted to mug me, needed help, or what, so I put on my best mean mug as they walked up. Hi! My name is Luke and this is Amber and we are with Rhema Bible College and was curious if you know Jesus. the man said as he offered his hand for a shake. For what seemed like forever, my mind raced, instantly thinking of Peters denial and the rooster crowing, also wondering if I was being punked. I sure do and I talk to him everyday! I replied....Their body language told me they thought I was full of bull....What is a friend of Jesus doing in a place that treats women with such disrespect? Amber boldly shot at me. A birthday party, and honestly, I never come to strip clubs. I made an exception this once for my friends birthday and doubt I come again. I explained. She still had her doubts and began to chastise me on how women should be treated and it is ungodly to ever come to these places. I listened and listened and listened some more......Luke stood passively with a slight grin of, I am sorry, as I glanced over at him during the lecture..... After about 3-4 minutes of Amber practically deeming me a womanizer, ungodly, a liar, and in need of Jesus, I smiled and told her I appreciated her concern and her passion for God but that did not quell her fire to baptize me in the parking lot. Amber began to challenge if I even knew Jesus and that is when my spirit came alive. My cup of chastising raneth over and it was time for a rebuttal. Scripture began to be quoted and at one point I felt like a corn field preacher giving a sermon after a good days work. I respectfully thanked her again for her concern but also advised her from chastising strangers, especially outside of a bar. I suppose in an attempt to call my bluff, Amber asked if I would pray with them right there. I reached out a hand to both and said Absolutely. Before either could exhale, I begin to pray aloud and loud. Folk passing by heard every word I am sure and was probably curious what was happening. I thanked our Master above for the both of them and for crossing our paths. I thanked him for keeping us safe and asked for understanding while praising Him for His love and security. Upon saying Amen, Amber gave me a hug and apologized for coming off judgmental and attacking. Luke text me his and Ambers numbers asking if I would join them sometime at their Church. I did later on and it was a good time. Once I got in my truck, I remember thinking that was a trip, a night prayer trip..... Hope you enjoyed this weeks Telling Tales Tuesday - A Night Prayer Trip.....I have never been back to a strip club since and have no plans to. I must say it did catch me off guard. Never expected to be in a circle holding hands praying in the parking lot of a strip club but I will do it any day of the week over denying Him and all He provides for us....Thinking about it, it is no coincidence our paths crossed. Maybe God was testing me and teaching me a lesson of perception. Maybe God was showing them not to attack folk with judgmental assumptions. Maybe God crossed our paths so we could each teach the other a lesson about Him. Hope yall have a great day!
