#ThrowbackThursday #TBT #onthisday With the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe coming up on Sunday, that is the focus of todays TBT as a couple of renewals have taken place on this day down the years. In 2011, Danedream recorded an emphatic win and broke the track record in doing so, becoming only the second German-trained horse to win the Longchamp showpiece after Star Appeal, ridden by Greville Starkey, in 1975. Danedream’s time of 2:24.50 eclipsed the previous best in the showpiece, set by Peintre Celebre in 1997, by 11/100’s of a second. Ridden by Andrasch Starke, Peter Schiergen’s filly sprinted clear in devastating fashion inside the final furlong to add to her two Group One victories in her homeland. Six years prior to this, Hurricane Run won the Arc under Keiren Fallon, giving him his first Arc victory and trainer, Andre Fabre, his sixth. The three-year-old colt, sent off the favourite, edged Westerner near the line. Bago, last years winner, finished third. Frankie Dettori, aboard the previous year’s runner-up, Cherry Mix, applied early pressure but faded quickly to leave Epsom Derby winner, Motivator, and Westerner to set a strong pace entering the home turn. Fallon held back before timing his attack, and his mount showed great speed to burst past Motivator and Westerner as he remained tight to the rail and battled on gamely to fend off Westerner.
