~Tom Baker, the Cabinet Maker and his son, Tommy~ Motto: You should see what I saw Interview done today at MM87 in his old building that S.T. Sparks is now completely adding onto and renovating as their corporate headquarters. Today was the official groundbreaking. I started building cabinets out of this building in 1979. I moved down from South Jersey. I worked in the trucking industry up there. A year later we pulled out of the driveway and a semi hit us and killed my Dad. I was in and out of the hospital for months. My wife is working on her 33rd year at Harriets Restaurant. I got back to work eventually after the accident and hired some guys to help me build cabinets. We built residential and commercial. I built cabinets for a lot of celebrities in those days in Ocean Reef and right behind the building here on what is known as Millionaires Row. My son worked with me off and on for the last 3 years and more and more as time goes on. Hes my retirement plan. We started coming down here in 1953 for vacation and my Dad always said he would retire here. He did, but, then he started another cabinet business. And, then, like I said, in 1979 I came down to help him and never looked back. Coming down here was one of my best decisions, when we go on vacation and then come back here, we are reminded again how beautiful it is here. I love the small town feeling and that the Keys are a People Place. I love all the fundraisers and community support when people need things. My wife and I still hope to go to Italy one day. Shes Italian and shed love to go over there and see the country. Shed like to see where her grandmother grew up and we really, really like Italian food. If you need some fine custom cabinets call me at 305-852-3579, Tom Baker, The Cabinet Maker.
