“You shall not murder.” Num. 20:13 ----------------- The Sixth Commandment. The law distinguishes between manslaughter and premeditated murder. The verb used in this verse never applies to war or capital punishment, because both were authorized by God under certain circumstances. This verse does not apply to self defense when necessary. It is further explained like this, “Thou shalt not do any thing hurtful or injurious to the health, ease, and life, of thy own body, or any other person’s unjustly.” Jesus said that murder begins in the heart, and “he that hates his brother is a murderer”. Human life is sacred because man bears God’s image.
