***excerpts from my book*** The four Ps of parenting for dads. PRESENCE: As the male parent you are first and foremost responsible for being PRESENT. The most blatant representation of devotion and love to your child will be found in the simple task of being consistently in attendance through out a childs life. PROVISION: It is no surprise that the male parent is expected to create an avenue of resource and sustainability for the child they are responsible for. As the male parent your position in your childs life is not predicated on whether or not you contribute financially; but make no mistake, you are morally obligated to do what is necessary to give your child their basic and fundamental needs in life. PROTECTION: Directly behind providing financial a man should innately desire to PROTECT his child(ren). The natural sense of protection and aggressive reproach to anything that even slightly seems like a threat should be programmed in embedded in to every good dad PARTICIPATION: Often men think that just being there is enough. Spending time and picking your child up when its your time to parent isnt where your responsibility ends. In actuality, a good father wants to be involved and enthralled with all that concerns their child. From the childs first steps to their steps across the stage at their college graduation, a child should know that you actively helped them get to where they are going as the captain and chief facilitator of their life.
