[info]131016 Super Junior Are one of the Big 3 Most Popular Korean Singers Overseas It’s been determined that the Korean singer with the highest level of recognition in foreigners is the all-male group Big Bang. The members of the National Assembly Education Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee collaborated with Sejong Hakdang Foundation and surveyed 604 students taking Korean classes. Big Bang received 18.3% of the votes, Girls’ Generation 15.1%, Super Junior 13.9%, EXO 11.1%, and TVXQ 8.9%. :Psy stood at 6th place with 8.3%, 2NE1 7.6%, CNBLUE6.8%, 2PM 6.4%, and Shinhwa 5.8%. When asked how they came to know about Korea, 66.1% of the students responded with “K-pop, movie, drama,” and other popular culture. “Politics, economics, and foreign-related news coverage” was answered by a mere 12.0%. By region, 80.2% of students in Asia responded with “K-pop, movie, drama” as how they first came to hear about Korea. And 56.2% of students in North and South America gave this answer, while 56.4% of students in Europe gave this answer. For students in North America, South America, and Europe, more people answered “Internationalgames, sports stars, and class” over “Politics, economics, and foreign news coverage. The most popular reason for liking Korean pop culture was “Korea’s unique pop culture personality,” at 41.1%. Even from Korea’s popular culture, students showed the greatest interest in K-pop, drama, and movie, in that order. Students from Asia responded with the order drama, K-pop, and movie.
