*sigh* Dementia. My dad is my hero. A true, modern day hero. No one should have to do what hes doing. Having a partner with dementia is frustrating beyond what words can describe. It is thankless, has no pay, little time off, and is absolutely exhausting. On his 50th wedding anniversary today (a milestone few couples make), we celebrated with family with a little BBQ, and my mother was on the outskirts of festivities. It is like he lost his partner and relationship that was being celebrated. It was so hard. I want to take him under my wing and rescue him. I love both my parents and my mother was always my best friend, but today, so close to Memorial Day when we honor heroes, I could not help but recognize that he is The Great Hero in my life. And yes, he willingly served his country. Thank you for all you have taught me, Daddy, about faithfulness. I love you.
