1/5th of humanity began voting on Monday. The NYTimes managed to reduce the Indian elections to a front-page article that mentions no one, not Gandhi, not Kejriwal, but Modi. Mentions is too neutral of a word –theres more vigorous ass-kissing than reportage. Its first paragraph reads like the background voice of a movie trailer: Over the last several years, as the yearning for a strong leader began to deepen and swell in the Indian electorate, one politician was systematically preparing himself to be the answer to that demand. Of course there has to be the token paragraph on the Gujarat genocide but that doesnt come until the end and who scrolls down that far anyway? nytimes/2014/04/08/world/asia/wish-for-change-animates-voters-in-india-election.html?hp&_r=0
