10/17/14 - OK.... You will NEVER believe!!!! First, I have to say that I was reading what happened a year ago and I just cannot believe it! I am going to give you todays happenings and then post a comment with exactly one year ago to see how far he has come! Pictures will be described within the update. ENJOY!!! From the moment I walked in today, I was told this story about him and cotton candy. Here is the pic!!! He absolutely loved it!!! I got even more and more yess and nos today. He had a visitor on Saturday. His friend Naomi went to see him. I wanted to find out if he 1)remembered he had a visitor and 2)remembered her period. So, I said I heard you had a visitor last weekend after I was here. He nodded yes. I asked him if it was my friend Elizabeth...he looked at me funny and shook his head no... I then asked him if it was his friend Naomi and he nodded yes. I think he is getting a cold because his nose was stuffy. He seemed to be hurting a bit so I ask...are you hurting...nod yes....is it your leg?...no...is it your arm?...no... being me....is it your butt?...YES!!!! LOLOLOL That is how he answered!!! He ate all his lunch again. I asked him if he wanted to go outside and he said yes (not said, just nodded). So, we are walking to the door. One nurse and an aide. We were all standing around him and I asked him to point to the one that was bad.... yep, he pointed to the right one!!! Then I asked him to point to the nice one...yep, got it right again (even though I think the bad one is nice, too!!! LOL). Another staff member came up who was wearing a Cardinals shirt. I asked him to point to the one wearing the Cardinals shirt. He kept looking at the first 2 ladies and I said he needed to look at everyone. He looked over, saw the shirt...and pointed. He knows!!! We went out for a few minutes but the wind was a tiny bit cool so we went back in. Went into his room and a few minutes later the nurse came down and said we are going to the Therapy room and putting him in the stand...yes, as you can see... TRAVIS WAS STANDING TODAY!!! It is a chair that they raise to get the person to stand with support on the legs, etc. They had a tough time getting him in a seated position so his legs would fit at the brace, but they did it. First pic is right after they got him raised. He did not have the support at his chest and his core body strength is ZILCH right now after laying in bed for over a year. With the help of many therapists and assistants, you can see the progression. At one point he was so ticked off...it has been a while since I saw that!!! His poor muscles in his legs were so tight after he sat back down. They were rock hard. Next time they are going to heat his legs before putting him in the stand to loosen them up. Afterwards, he went back to bed and they gave him a muscle relaxer. Poor guy!!! He was worn out!!! OH, OH, OH, I forgot to tell you!!!! I think he is actually about ready to talk!!! He was moving his mouth and making noises like he was trying to. I asked him if he was trying to talk and he nodded yes!!! Also, I was trying to get him to stick his tongue out at me and I was doing it to him like a child would do it with attitude and was making a face while I did it. I got him smiling and actually a slight giggle each time I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hard to explain in words. So, now that I shared this and you see the pics, I am going to post a comment and that is what I wrote a year ago today. Please, as you read this, take a moment and give God the praise He deserves for all the answered prayers! I am so overwhelmed when I realize what last year was like and what the NOW is!!!
