10/28/2013 Dear Friends, Family, and supporters, Many of you - TopicsExpress

10/28/2013 Dear Friends, Family, and supporters, Many of you know that in March of 2013 I traveled to the Country of Malawi in Africa. I went there with a team of veterinarians from North Star Veterinary hospital under the umbrella of Villages in Partnership (VIP) villagesinpartnership.org/ Our purpose was to come alongside subsistence farmers in the Sakata region of south east Malawi and help them develop food security for their families. I was involved with training the interested villagers in beekeeping, and to a lesser extent to evaluate some local animal husbandry practices. I have made a 5year commitment to VIP and the farmers so that my expertise and time spent there will have a strong impact on the lives of the poor. This November 15, my wife Patty and I will be returning to Malawi to see how the beekeepers have progressed. We have received updates that some of the new hives supplied by many of you are occupied by bees however, there does not seen to be much honey production. I look forward to continuing their training, while Patty will be working with children and supporting teachers at the Chimpeni Primary School, a school built by VIP and the community to serve children, who in the past, did not have access to a school. villagesinpartnership.org/590/ A generous supporter of this initiative has graciously covered travel expenses for Patty and me. The children from my church raised $375.00 for us to bring to help children in the area. We hope to use those funds to help the school. Several beekeeper friends and non-beekeeper friends have asked me how they can help support this trip. I hope many of you will see the value and come alongside us as we come alongside those who are weak and vulnerable. If you are interested in supporting this trip, you can make a tax deductible gift to Villages in Partnership, PO Box 52, Allentown NJ 08501. If you would like to donate on line you can do so from this link: villagesinpartnership.org/give/# you may write in your donation that this gift is to go toward the beekeeping trip with Tim Schuler. Expenses: • Truck and driver rental plus gas at $8.00/ gallon I will be renting a truck and driver to take the beekeepers to visit a man who makes his whole living keeping bees. His place is 2 hours north of Sakata. He keeps 80 -100 colonies for honey production. The villagers will see his operation and hopefully have a vision for future possibilities. • Purchasing wood for hive construction • Purchasing fats and oils for moisturizer training • Interpreter for Patty • Materials for desks in the school Needed Items: #2 pencils, Colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, small plastic containers for teachers to keep supplies like pencils and sharpeners. Maps of the world, Malawi, and the USA. English dictionaries. Picture books with black characters. Thank you Tim and Patty Schuler
