100 years ago today- The retreat as continued since the 23rd with several rear guard actions notably at Audregnies and Elouges. By the end of the 25th the troops are becoming worn out and II Corps is in danger of being overran, its Commander, Smith-Dorrien orders them to stand and fight at Le Cateau on the morning of the 26th August. He was going against Sir John Frenchs orders but he had little choice and his action helped save the B.E.F. from being over run. Meanwhile there had been little change to the K.S.L.I. Battalions, many may have started to think their turn would not come.
