111 years ago today, in 1903, the Wright Bros. completed their first successful manned flight. Our program - NASAs Centennial Challenges - is named after the centennial of that historic flight. Our public prize competitions were founded on the spirit of innovation and the belief that some of the best ideas are out there with you, waiting to be discovered. We seek ideas and innovations from the citizen inventor, the non-traditional source. Wilbur and Orville were owned a bicycle repair shop, but had entrepreneurial spirit and curiosity in many other areas. Many of our challenge alums come from other industries, paths and backgrounds. This is what makes their perspective so unique, and how we make giant leaps in technology. Think about the things around you today - what inventions could you not live without?
