2 Timothy 2:15 MKJV Study earnestly to present yourself approved - TopicsExpress

2 Timothy 2:15 MKJV Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. I have said often that all Christians ought to be in the ministry, by default. By that I do not mean that all Christians should be behind a pulpit preaching, because then the pews will be empty, or warmed at least by a couple of heathens. But every Christian should live in such a way that they teach the people they come in contact with the true nature and value of their religion, and I use the word ‘religion’ loosely as it has acquired a meaning far removed from Christianity as we know it. It is a fact that the world learns about Christianity from those who profess to be Christians and not so much from those behind pulpits, nor from the Bible for that matter. And I ask the question, what does the world learn from professing Christians? Do they learn about faith, virtue, knowledge, self control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love? Or do they learn just the opposite? (2 Peter 1:5-8 MKJV). Do they even learn from the Christian how to be saved, how to be reconciled with a God who is both a God of love and a God of Justice? The problem is the Word of God, or rather the lack thereof! Many believers become just saved, and time goes by as they get their fill Sunday after Sunday from the pulpit and yet never digest what they are fed. The proteins, vitamins and minerals of the Word are never drawn into the system but simple enter one ear and pass out the other. They are spiritually anaemic, pale, sickly. Hebrews 5:12-14 MKJV For indeed because of the time, you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God. And you have become in need of milk, and not of solid food. (13) For everyone partaking of milk is unskillful in the Word of Righteousness, for he is an infant. (14) But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, even those who because of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. The writer of Hebrew says that the time comes when a believer ought to be a teacher, but sadly that believer needs to be re-taught the basics and is still in need of milk and not of solid food. That believer is still unskilled in the Word of Righteousness because he is still a spiritual baby. And here is the danger, if you do not know the Word of God, if you are unskilled in it; you are a very large sitting duck! You cannot discern between good and evil, and if you cannot discern between good and evil how on earth are you going to know if what the preacher behind the pulpit is telling you is the truth? How will you know if some televangelist is not just after your money? How will you know if the book that you bought at the Christian bookstore is not just filled to the brim with damnable heresies? 2 Timothy 2:24 MKJV But the servant of the Lord must not strive, but to be gentle to all, apt to teach, patient, Get skilled, get into the Word of God, get to know it, become a doer of the Word and not just a hearer, this is the only way you will grow and become that fully grown, mature, perfect Christian. It is the only way you can live a life that is both salt and light, it is the only way you can answer the questions of the world, it is the only way that you can be a teacher of the truth out on the street where you operate. Do not desire to go to some mission field in a foreign land; do not wish to be a pastor. God has given you your mission field, it is in the land of the lost and suffering, right there in your neighbourhood, right there at your work, right there on the building site, right there at your school or college.
